Kukup is a small fishing village located about 40 kilometres southwest of Johor Bahru in Malaysia, it is in the district of Pontian, Johor.
A short trip to Kukup during my 1st sch term break, I’m looking forward to the trip as I’ve never been to KuKup, was told by MT teacher the place is a Kelong. Kelong is a Malay word to describe a form of offshore platform built predominantly with wood.
We left home at 7am in the morning, met the rest of our members and off we go heading towards Tuas Checkpoint.
The journey to Kukup actually was abt 1.5 hr drive but due to the tight security check in Checkpoint, it took us 4 hrs to reach our destination due, we only manage to clear Spore custom at 10.45am.
Finally reached the place, alighted the mini bus and here comes a funny smell…. it smell terrible, cannot stands the fishy smell. We had our lunch at the local seafood restaurant nearby the jetty, I din eat much as the dishes were mostly spicy.. :( After filling up our stomach, we headed to our ‘Resort Hotel’.
Most of the houses there were no longer build in wooden platform; mostly were concrete. We were living in a house on stilts on sea, the place was well furnished.. they were just like our house in spore; with living room, Kitchen, bedrooms, TV, Karaoke set, Mahjong table etc… only different was the toilet, all the ‘business’ done will go direct to the sea below the house.... hahaha
